December 6, 2008 to January 09, 2009.
Applications will be accepted after January 09 until the courses fill, at which time students will be placed on a waiting list. The applications must be complete with all post-dated cheques enclosed, and mailed to the outdoor centre.
Note: The Gould Lake Outdoor Centre provides transportation, tents, packs and food for all trips.
Quest & GAP are introductory courses for students with no previous canoe/camping experience. Following 3 days of skills-training (days only) at Gould Lake, students will embark on a 5-day local canoe trip in Frontenac Park. Quest and GAP explore challenges faced by students as positive members of society, and focuses on personal growth and confidence. Quest is co-ed, while GAP is for girls only.

Outreach is an introductory canoeing program for students graduating from grades 8 or 9. Following 6 days of training at Gould Lake (days only), participants embark on a 9-day wilderness trip in Algonquin Park. They will learn environmental ethics, canoe tripping skills, wilderness navigation, initiative games, plus much more. As a part of a team, they will be challenged both physically and mentally. Outreach can be taken 2 years.

The Outdoor Skills program is a 26-day course providing a variety of wilderness trips including kayaking in Georgian Bay, canoeing in Killarney Park, hiking in the Adirondacks and white water paddling on the Madawaska River. Qualifying students will be certified in ORCKA Canoe Tripping I, ORCKA Moving Water I, and a Flatwater Kayaking certification. This course prepares students for the leadership training they will get in the WIC and KIC programs, available to them the following year.

Prerequisite: Outreach year 1 & 2, or GAP/Quest & Outreach Year 1, or equivalent experience

(Grade 10, 11 and 12 graduates)
This course consists of 14 days of white water river canoeing on the historic Missinaibi River to James Bay, as well as ORCKA certification in both Canoe Tripping II and ORCKA Flatwater Instructor training. The co-op component, (as a leader in training) will be either one 16-day placement on an Outreach trip, or a Quest trip of 8 days each. While on their placement they will be asked to teach and lead the younger students in a variety of ways. The objective of this course is to prepare the students to be potential wilderness instructors, who will be well qualified to work in any outdoor camps.

Sea kayaking for 20 or more days off the coast of Labrador is a wilderness experience of a lifetime! Students take the coastal Labrador ferry from Goose Bay northward to Rigolet to kayak along the rugged wind-swept coast. KIC is both physically and mentally demanding, due in part to the remoteness and variable weather that can occur. The objective of this course is to prepare the students to be potential wilderness instructors, who will be well qualified to work in any outdoor camps.

Prerequisites: Outdoor Skills or WIC or equivalent experience & GLC 2O (Grade 10 Careers)

Note: Due to the skill level required on the OS, WIC and KIC courses and their remote destinations, proven skill acquisition, experience and past behaviour will be determining factors for acceptance into the course.
