LETS MAKE A DEMO: NDSS Semester 1

Produce the whole CD package -- this course will culminate in final performances, such as the Battle of the Bands, the "Voice" festival and be augmented by shows such as coffee houses and other venues. TECHNICAL ILLUSTRATION/AIRBRUSH ILLUSTRATION: BSS Semester 1

Technical illustration and airbrush rendering is a unique course taught by a professional illustrator. This is a 3 credit course: 1 credit Visual Arts (AWD 3M or AWD 4M), 1 credit Technical Design (TDJ 3M or TDJ 4M) and 1 credit Technical Illustration (AWK 3M or AWK 4M). Course fee: $100.00. Career / Unique Programs

Programs designed to introduce students to career opportunities or to focus on an area of special interest by means of an integrated package of credits.

 

ANIMATION: NDSS Semester 1

This program will explore hand-drawn, stop-action and computer animation. Although animation will be the unifying medium, the media arts component will encompass mass media techniques such as video stop-action and animated website design. The illustration component will consist of a studio course, concentrating on life drawing, still life, perspective, illusionistic and expressive drawing. AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMIZING: ESS Semester 1

Through creating and operating an entrepreneurial venture in automobile customizing, students gain hands-on experience in all services related to hi-performance and customization. Students develop the skills, attitudes, and behaviours required to remain employed and progress in the real world. The program partners with local businesses in the automotive industry to help provide work experience for the students. CELTIC STUDIES: KCVI Semester 2 (not running in 2009-2010)

This academic and cultural program includes a trip to Cape Breton, where students can explore our Celtic Canadian heritage. An ideal program for university-bound students. No experience necessary. COMMUNITY SERVICE WORK: LCVI Semester 1

Students explore the various theories regarding human growth and development and supplement theoretical learning with workplace experience at a cooperative education placement. Articulated with St. Lawrence College Human Studies Programs. Students are offered with HPW 3CC (2 co-op credits), or HHG 4MC (2 co-op credits). The other credit possibilities are HPW 3CP (Living and Working With Children) or HHG 4MP (Issues in Human Growth and Development). ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP: BSS Semester 2

The Environmental Leadership program focuses on expanding the knowledge and understanding of environmental issues. Our aim is to inspire visionary, action oriented leadership to work for a sustainable future by investigating the impact of human activity, both locally and globally. The focus of the co-op credit is to gain expertise, enhance skills and broaden perspectives on environmental and natural resource management, eco-tourism and leadership. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in wilderness field trips such as winter camping, canoeing and hiking. ENVIROWORKS - A student-run re-cycling business: QECVI Semester 1and or 2

This program is ideal for students who are business oriented and environmentally conscious. Students work in the classroom, in the community and directly in the operation of the store. EQUINE STUDIES: THE HORSE COURSE NDSS: Semester 2

Students will learn anatomy and physiology, genetics, health and nutrition, horse care and stable management. A semester long project will allow students to explore a related topic of their choice (such as evolution, behaviour and training, the historical contributions of the horse to society, alternative therapies etc.). ER: EMERGENCY RESPONSE: LSS Semester 1

Learn about a variety of disasters and catastrophes that have plagued our modern world. The program will teach about past disasters and methods of recovery, as well as potential disasters and plans for responding to them. Learn what is needed for careers in the military, coast guard, firefighting, law enforcement and paramedic. A possibility of Dual Credits (status pending). Phys. HIGH PERFORMANCE ATHLETICS: QECVI Semester 1

High Performance Athletics is a program designed for elite athletes intending to pursue further excellence in athletics. The program provides opportunity to pursue academic course loads, intense training sessions, and psychological preparation. Emphasis will be placed on creating a sport portfolio, acquiring certification, and creating personalized fitness programs. INDEPENDENT COMPUTER STUDIES: ESS Semester 1

This program is a 3 or 4 credit package in senior Computer Studies. The ICS Focus Program is an independent project based package of courses where students can choose their own project ideas. Approximately one period per day will be whole-class instruction, with the remainder for individual projects. For students wishing to travel, learn about different cultures and increase their job prospects in an expanding global economy. Students will rapidly develop proficiency in Spanish through four months of intensive classroom study and 1 month in Mexico. LAW & SECURITY: BSS Semester 1

This program prepares students for entry into law enforcement careers such as municipal and provincial policing, corporate and commercial security, corrections, lawyer/legal assistant and conservation officers. Students learn about journalism, sound production and music as they broadcast to Kingston at 91.9 FM, and to the world at their website ( www.thecave.ca ). This esthetic program will introduce students to a variety of spa treatments and services. Students will investigate the business practices and the health and safety aspects of this up and coming field. Designed for students to earn credits toward a high school diploma while working in an apprenticeable trade as a coop student.

CROSSROADS: QECVI Semesters 1 and 2

An alternative educational setting designed for success for female students.
