Student planning sheets are available in Student Services and are used on a regular basis by Guidance Teachers when working with students. Should you wish to access an interactive planner in planning course selections, please visit the following website: www.myBlueprint.ca. This interactive planner is one tool that enables students to plan their 4 or 5 years of possible study in keeping with the courses that KCVI plans to offer and their destination. Destination based pathway charts will be available in Student Services and at the KCVI web site: kcvi.limestone.on.ca.
Course curriculum documents, which describe overall aims of the curriculum and specific learning expectations within each course, are available in .html and .pdf format from the Ministry of Education on their web site at http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/document/curricul/seccurric.html
To meet students’ individual needs, the Principal may substitute up to three compulsory credit courses with courses from the remainder of those that meet the compulsory credit requirements. The decision to make a substitution for a student should be made only if the student’s educational interests are best served by such substitutions. Each substitution will be noted on the student’s Ontario Student Transcript.
Crossover Material will allow students to move from one course type in grade 9 to the other in grade 10 in the same subject. This crossover material (of up to 30 hours) is non-credit but will allow the student to demonstrate achievement of the learning expectations that are included in one type of grade 9 course but not the other. This crossover material is to be completed by the student independently and may be done over the summer, outside the regular school day or during school hours. Students work at his or her own pace without a teacher. The student will be able to access the material directly through the Independent Learning Centre server or electronically in the school.
Transfer courses are available to students wishing to change course types (University, College, University/College, Workplace) between Grade 10 and 11 and/or Grade 11 and 12. These Transfer Courses are partial credit courses. Prerequisites for grade 11 and 12 courses are specified in the Curriculum Policy Documents. A student who has completed a course of one type in a particular subject and grade that does not meet a stated prerequisite for a course in the same subject in the next grade may take a transfer course. This partial credit course bridges the gap between the course completed and the course of the type designated as a prerequisite. Transfer courses are offered at summer school.
